DR. (MRS.)  GLORIA NWAKAEGHO ELEMO, FIIRO'S new Director General assumes Office and promises to pursue the realization of vision 20:20:20 agenda through rapid commercialization of FIIRO’s R&D findings

A new Director General/Chief Executive Officer has been appointed by the Federal Government of Nigeria for the Federal Institute of Industrial Research in Lagos. She is Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Elemo.

Announcing the appointment, the Senior Special assistance to the President on Media, Mr. Emmanuel Niboro said the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment and that it takes immediate effect.

Dr. Elemo is the first female Director General of FIIRO and has over twenty seven years of Post Doctoral working experience. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, an M.Sc in Human Nutrition and a Ph.D in Nutritional Biochemistry. She is a member of various professional bodies within and outside Nigeria. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Chemists and the Nigeria Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST).

Prior to her appointment as the helmsman of FIIRO, DR. Elemo was a Senior lecturer and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at the Lagos State University. She was also a Deputy Director at the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in Abuja, where she worked for fourteen years. She joined the services of FIIRO as the Director and Head of the Food and Analytical Services Department, a position she held until her appointment as the Director General and Chief Executive of FIIRO.

Top on her agenda for the organization is to ensure the rapid commercialization of the research findings of FIIRO, replacing obsolete equipment with state of the art equipment; establishing world class laboratories; ensuring best practices and enhancing job performance of members of staff through regular training and retraining and a host of other laudable intentions.

Dr. (Mrs.)  Elemo is happily married with children and has  resumed office.
