Dr. Oluwatoyin Bolanle Oluwole is the current Director and Head of Department of Food Technology.  

She holds Bachelor’s (Hons) and Masters (1990) degrees in food science and technology from the University of Ibadan.

Dr. Oluwole obtained a Doctoral Degree in Food Science and Technology in 2009 from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Ogun State with Specialization in Food Processing and Storage Technology.

She joined the Institute as a Research officer 1 in June 1990 and was posted to Roots and Tubers division of the Food Technology Department. She rose through the ranks to become the Acting Director and Head of the Department in 2013 and served the institute in this capacity until July 2015 when she became the substantive Director and Head of Food Technology Department. 

Dr. Oluwole currently coordinates at least twenty R&D projects in the Department and supervises forty-five research scientists in various relevant disciplines to Food Science in the department.

She has seven registered patents to her credit and four new R&D innovations submitted for Patent registration in 2019.   The most current patents being the Development of Fortified Biscuit for African School Age children and Development of High Nutrient Density Beverage for school age children. Dr. Oluwole also worked on a project titled” Development and production of High Nutrient Density Beverage from Malted cereals and Legume Blends” which has been patented and  Fidson Pharmaceutical PLC Lagos, Nigeria has signified interest by writing to the institute officially for its commercial production for the benefit of Nigerians.

She currently has at least 147 publications and fifty-seven published papers in local and international high impact journals. She is a co-author of a published book titled “Complementary Feeding for Nigerian Infants and Toddlers “a member of editorial boards and reviewer of at least twenty-five (25) International Journals in food processing, nutrition, food security and value addition.
