FIIRO, TETFUND ON A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT TO CURB UNEMPLOYMENT

The Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Lagos, recently played host to the representatives from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024. The visit culminated in a guided facility tour of the Institute, aimed at evaluating over 250 FIIRO's commercializable research products for potential exhibition at the upcoming TETFUND Research Fair in Abuja this November.

Speaking at the event, FIIRO's Director General, Dr. Jummai Adamu Tutuwa, praised TETFUND for its significant contributions to Nigeria's socioeconomic development. She reiterated FIIRO's mission and commitment to generate wealth and employment opportunities for Nigerians through its research findings.

She highlighted the Institute's breakthroughs and achievements in research technologies, developed from indigenous raw materials available in all 774 Local Government Areas across Nigeria.

The forthcoming TETFUND Research Fair, she opined, will afford FIIRO the valuable opportunity to showcase its technologies and attract investments.

In his response, Professor Umar Bindir, Chairman TETFUND Research Fair Committee, scored FIIRO high on its relevance to Mr. President Renewed Hope Agenda. He explicitly stated that the initiative, TETFAIR, is a program designed to support academics, researchers, technologists, and innovators from government tertiary institutions in Nigeria. He was particularly elated about FIIRO's relevance and unbreakable records in research activities.

Professor Bindir however added that the program focuses on translating ideas into innovation, solutions, and enterprise, with benefits including all-expense-paid participation, mentoring, capacity building, and access to investors and industry experts.
